After almost six long years of deep stealth mode we have finally quit threatening to launch and actually launched! It has been said that the first step is the hardest and we certainly hope so, for to say that our journey to date has been arduous would be an understatement of epic proportions. FN’s quest for networked software security capable of defeating all known threats to User data on a malicious host has been in the words of the INFOSEC Research Council a “hard problem”. Furthermore, the both obvious and material challenges of securing clients, servers and the HTTP network protocol have been made more difficult by an ever changing, ever growing and ever escalating set of hacker capabilities, methods and tools. In fairness to ourselves, we actually thought we had reached the proverbial goal line we set for ourselves on several occasions, before the goal line moved…
So here we are at last and given our, um, “protracted timeline” we clearly could have picked pretty well any day to launch, so why June 6th? Two very important reasons, actually. The first is personal as June 6th is the birth date of my departed father and since we happened to be ready to launch close to this date, I more than somewhat selfishly thought about the unique opportunity our launch presented to pay tribute to a man, who despite a legion of faults, remained:
- Fiercely loyal to his beliefs and values including, the truly magical powers of entrepreneurial innovation inherent in the capitalist system (as just one of its many virtues)
- Unyielding in his deep belief in the power of education, coupled with an unwavering desire to constantly learn and improve (despite a 6th grade education, or perhaps because of it)
- As unrelentingly in his dismissal of failure as an option, as in the consistency of his edgy, underdog aggressiveness, which I’m sure was driven in no small part by his being an immigrant trying to make a better life for his family in a new land. Having seen allot and achieved a little thus far in my life I know that being an immigrant is one of the most difficult and courageous endeavors any person can undertake and one that I Viagra Online personally hold a deep respect and reverence for and candidly remain in awe of.
The second reason for this date is purely coincidental to its concurrency with my Father’s birthday, but not as related to its metaphorical significance. In searching for an analogy, to us this day marks the beginning of the end of the “war” for cyber security, as it did so many years ago for an obviously much more important real war vs. a metaphorical one. For today, we believe that for the first time, albeit not likely forever, FN s Connect Secure Architecture and Technologies are capable of defeating all currently known cyber security threats focused on compromising User data. And yes, we recognize “eyes wide open” how brazen our beliefs and claims must appear to some given that we are a small company that few have heard of. But in fact isn’t that how all things start, small and seemingly from nowhere? Further to this point, isn’t a small, passionately committed group of people how disruptive change must indeed begin?
Importantly, we would like to thank the hyper dedicated team at Federated Networks who have toiled alongside us for the seeming eternity that preceded today, without whose prescient insights, dogged persistence and daily examples of “empirical evidence of goodness” our aspirational objectives would at best be nothing more than idealized conjecture. Suffice it to say that here at FN we believe posterity will confirm our strong convictions and seemingly brash contentions. If not, we will take more than a little comfort in Teddy Roosevelt’s immortal words for anyone who not only dared to be great, but had the courage to try, “who at the worst, fails while daring greatly… so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
For although we may be accused of many things and indeed already have been, it would be difficult to argue that FN hasn’t swung for the fences – and I know in my heart that my dad would be proud of the daring of our aspirations, the conviction of our beliefs and in the efficacy of our results and frankly we are too. In the final analysis, what else matters?
